Automatic Opening Vents (AOVs)
Smoke Control Systems are required in multi-storey residential buildings, hotels and student accommodation to principally protect the stairs to assist escape in the event of a fire, in compliance with the recommendations of Approved Document B and BS9991;2011.
In multi-storey residential buildings, the main escape route is always via common corridors and/or lobies into the stairs. The aim is to keep stairs reasonably free of smoke and to improve conditions in corridors and lobbies opening onto the stairs.
Our smoke ventilation experience enables us to design a suitable AOV system – including forced extract fan assisted systems where required – for any application.
Whenever the consultant, Fire Officer, architect or responsible person deems it appropriate and necessary the AOV system can be designed to operate within the overall fire safety solution of any particular site.
